RWE is the third largest European energy company based in Germany. Its main markets are Germany and Central and Eastern Europe. The company distributes energy to total 44 million of customers. The RWE brand covers eight divisions - RWE Power, RWE Trading, RWE Energy, RWE npower, RWE Dea, RWE Gas Midstream, RWE Systems and RWE Innogy.

Essen-based RWE AG is a lean Group Center responsible for Group management tasks such as strategy development, planning, controlling, financing, communications and Group-wide executive HR development.

RWE Power is one of the biggest electricity producers in Europe producing electric energy from all resources available, i.e. nuclear energy, energy from brown coal, lignite, natural gas, biomass, water and wind. RWE Power employs more than 18,000 people.

RWE Supply & Trading is a company focused on Europe-wide trade in all products in the Group’s portfolio. RWE Trading trades in electricity, natural gas, coal and oil products and energy derivatives geared towards hedging price risks. Since 2002, RWE Trading has also been involved in trading with environmental certificates. 500 employees of the company work, besides in the headquarters in Essen, also in London and other cities across Europe.

RWE npower operates in the United Kingdom servicing local customers of the RWE Group. The company uses natural gas, oil, coal and renewable sources for the production of electricity.

RWE Systems is focused on the support to all companies within the Group so that their employees can fully concentrate on their business. 2,800 employees at over 60 locations in Europe provide daily their colleagues within the Group with services in the area of IT, data protection and transmission and other supportive services.

RWE Dea , headquartered in Hamburg, is focused on exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. The company deploys state-of-the-art drilling and production technologies along with know-how acquired in nearly 110 years of its operations in this area. RWE Dea also strives for environmental protection and safety. The company operates production facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Norway, and Egypt and also holds exploration licences in Algeria, Libya and Poland.

The new renewables company RWE Innogy started operating on 1 February 2008, RWE intends to invest at least €1 billion per year from 2008 onwards in expanding its renewables activities. The company’s headquarters is Essen.
